Viernes venting

Is tyiad ah tyiad...lawdee packing does drain yuh energy and den you doan even realize that yuh got all de stuff you got. I finding things stack way in boxes, under shelves, up in cupboards, ah mean everywhere. and everytime I think I accomplished a room or area, I go and find more stuff...whalooosss...I need a massage most prompto...dey nuh have a massage specialist bout in blogland.... perferrably a brotha, wid a nice six pack and pleasing on de eyes, add in some nice trained dreads and I signing up fuh a 10 session or more package...OK I digress, but if any ah wunna out dey fit de description, de next fligh into Caracas, anytime now. until den, I gine settle fuh de hubby and tune into some nice vibes and relax fuh de evening.

But I got some griping tuh do before I get dey. First gripe is about a function me and the hubby went to last night and I gine tell yuh people nuh have nuh etiquette atall, atall...Now check this.
We were invited tuh a cocktail to celebrate de national day of a country. Now de normal rule of things is that you dress business professional or formal. men in suits and women in business suits semi formal/cocktail dress. Usually the affair last for about 2hrs mas o menos (more or less). You usually stand the whole time, and network, gossip, make buiness contacts, meet new and old friends and just socialize. At sometime during the prosses they play the national anthem of the country hosting the cocktail/reception and then the anthem of host country, that being Venezuela. O.K.

So here we are at this reception last night making our rounds and what do we see. people wid a whole bunch a children running all ova de place. There were even two women wid babies..what de hell..yuh can't find a baby sitter fuh bout 2hrs? and not only did they have babies, but they in de people place wid big able baby carriages...chupse. Then they were people wid children in sneakers and jeans, like dem just come off de soccer field. So I gotta stand up next tuh some musty smelling child in my nice threads and heels, while dem run bout de place knocking yuh, mekking yuh spill de wine or whaever in yuh hand.... I know wunna think that I got something against rugrats, but dat not so, I just think that there is a time and place fuh evathing and a cocktail reception at night ein de time or de place fuh ruggrats.

Moving on, tuh more rounds, we see some people, adults mind you, in jeans, T-shirts, sneakers..all kinds ah things. Wait...deese people doan read de invitation...de invitation sey big and bold..OK it din suh big or bold, but it did clear enuff tuh see-- Traje formal. dress: formal What part ah formal is jeans and sneakers....I missing something??? This is a cocktail, where they got heads ah international organizations, Ambassadors of countries. People from the government and other people of some kinda statute and dem roll up in de people place so....yuh mean tuh tell me dat fuh 2hrs ah night, yuh couldn't put on some decent clothes???

But de straw that break de camel back was this. During the playing of the two national anthems, people ein got nuh kind deency or respect atall. People walking bout talking pun dem cell fones and all kinda thing, but wha really piss me off was three american servicemen and one of them could be called a friend or associate of ours. Them in they dress Blues or whites, one was a Army soldier, the other ah Air Forceman and the next a Navy fella. All three ah dem dressed in them highest form to represent the great U. S of A and wha dem do?? In de middle of playing both Anthems, dem drinking beer!! wha?? I ein stumble, yuh heard me right.... I was totally disgusted. What total disrespect for other nations.

Now, I have several yrs of working for the U.S dept of Defense and in particular the U.S Army. I know what the protocal of national anthems is. You show your respect by standing up and staying silent. If it's the U.S. anthem and you are a U.S serviceman, you salute, but most definitely if you are in U.S military uniform and any other national anthem is played, you show respect by at least staying silent kinda at attention. Lo n' behold, me and hubby along wid de other international guess, apart from de few that ein got no broughtupsee (manners in Bajan) we standing dey showing we lil respect fuh de antems and them three fellas drinking beer and talking without regards to anyone around them....

Now yuh see, wid atitudes and outright behavior like dis, I does doan feel nuh kinda way, when people of other nations lash out at Americans. Because Americans on a whole can be a selfish self-centered bunch of people.... yes, I gonna get some slack from my american readers, but sometimes yuh haffa call it as yuh see it...and dis one worff calling pun, cause when I went to the American cocktail reception, eva manjack showed respect fuh de Stars & stripes and Star Spangle Banner!! Yuh think that was too much fuh de American representatives at the reception to do de same last night???

And if wunna think that I am U.S. basher wid my Bajan self...No, I am a carrier of that blue U.S passport, but I got manners and does show respect when it due fuh de broken Trident, de Stars and Stipes or wha ever flag or national anthem being played.

De other thing that I gine gripe about is how the U.S. wanted to prevent Hugo Chavez Frias (president of Venezuela) from speaking at the U.N 60th General Assembly this week, by doing some sleek nasty tricks. The U.S gov't play dem granting Chavez he visa, but not he travelling team. They talking bout how the visas still under consideration and that it takes time to get them granted. B.S... Them allow he tuh bring he plane, but it couldn't land at JFK. It landed somewhey 200km away. but Chavez doan play, and he's a determined fella. So he went and he complain that the U.N is international soverign terrority, the Sec Gen Kofi Aanan had to step in and allow he tuh come.

Yuh see GWB wanna pick and choose who cud attend the U.N general assembly, but it nuh work like that. He doan want people tuh call he fuh what he is. He allowed de madman down in Zimbawee tuh come and speak. Chavez lambaste he backside yesterday and tell GWB that if he doan respect the U.N. and it policies then the U.N need to be moved to an international city and Latin America would be the perfect place fuh the body. Chavez get his right to speak and he ganered a couple applauses too. He called them on the fradulent document of human development which only 15 countries out of the more that 170 represented at the U.N was in the agreement and the document was signed and passed with the U.S the main backer. Many countries agreed with him including many carribean countries. and I agreed wid he too. The U.S does disregard the U.N in a heartbeat, and it's time that the U.N move from N.Y. and U.S. grounds to more international unbiased terrority.

Yes, today was my U.S bashing day, and I don't apologize for any of it.

OK..I done gripping now, I gine and relax..more boxes to pack over the weekend.

And as a side note Chavez was putting up money for Katrina before Bush even had a plan. But he can't even get an invite? Imagine that........
