Feliz fin de semana

Well just wanted to wish you guys a happy weekend. As you may note, not much happened in my side of the world this week. The rain season has resumed, a bit early I must say, but hey, all kinds of strang things are happening with the weather. First it was the season which usually runs from Jun-Dec, but lasted until Feburary of this year, and it was in the last few days, specifically during carnival weekend, that we experienced the most rain fall recorded in the country. Plus it threw us into a state of emergency as many houses (ranchos) perched on the side of the mountains came tumbling down. and entire villages washed out. Well you may also remembered that me, living on the top floor of my building, had my share of leaks. Called the landlord to assest the problem and he quickly informed us, that the initial down payment to the contractor was made and as soon as the dry season came we would be first on his list to get the roof fixed. He also commented on how it was unsual for us to be still having rain that time of the year.

Well dry season came, the end of Feburary until yesterday. Not a drop of rain and not a sight from the contractor. Not a call from the landlord...nada, nothing, zlitch. OK, I told the hubby that the landlord should sue the contractor for running off with his money, knowing full well that he (the landlord) had fed us a load of bull about the down payment on the work. Well signs of rain came yesterday and guess what? riinnggg, ringgggg... ME -- Hello !-- Landlord-- Sra Campfyah--Me--Si--Landlord--- I just want you to know that the contractors will tbe there next week to start the work on the roof. ME---OK--- nothing else to be said. Well it rained, yesterday, last night and it's raining now.... If it continues to rain this weekend...Guess what? I'll get another call tell me that the work can't be done, because the roof is wet and we once again have to wait until it dries out for at least 3 days before anything can be done. We'll also be told that it's unsual for it to be raining so early as the season isn't due to start until June.

In the meantime, we just keeping our cool, as we know what the real deal is...and for all we care the roof could fall in, as long as it don't damage any of our things. What started out as a small leak that was an easy fix, turned out to be the entire roof needs replacing...their problem not ours. The hubby and I have become defiant in the maintenance of the Apt..and know that we won't be here next year. They can have all the excuses in the world tot he next tenant.

So From the land of chacapas and arepas....Have a nice weekend!!!!!

That sounds like the last place that we lived in! The place was leaking when we took it, but it was to be fixed. In the second month, I wrote the landlord a letter saying that I was moving out at the end of the month and I wanted back my deposit(equal to 2 months rent) and the rent I had paid at the beginning of the second month as she hadn't lived up to her part of the deal. The workmen were on the roof that weekend!

Your case IS a bit different, in that you are getting lots of rain. Roofers really don't work on roofs when its raining, I know, because my Dad was into roofing. Still, the man can buy tarpaulins and cover the roof until when it can be fixed. Why not suggest that to him.

Yes, M. Bull, do understand that you can't work when it's raining, but this is the 3rd, rain season that we are going thru since being here with the same problem. We just came off two months of rathid parched 95 degrees dry season, not a drop of rain. Whey he was then?

Jdid...De lanlord is a blastid idiot. De bad thing is the nature of our contract and how our rent is paid, we just can't sey he not getting paid this month as much as we'd like to say and do just that.

Boy, most folks I know who renting seem to be in a constant feud with the evil person known as the landlord....

Hope you are nice and dry even if rain does fall. Dr. D.
