Cosas de sabado

Well the weekend is here. It is a long one as yesterday was a holiday "De battle de carabobo". Don't have a clue what the battle was all about. All I know is that it's another holiday where all the Caracians head to the shores to crowd the beaches in their flosses. The day wasn't much of a beach day as it rained part of the day. Today, de devil and he wife fightin fuh de coucou stick...wunna know that one? In Bajan terms, it raining but de sun still shining. So I eein know bout all de people at the beach flossin.

So wha gine on in arepa tierra. Last night I was in heaven for $10. Got a call from a friend the day before. She on her way to purchase tickets for a show coming to town on Friday (last night) should she get tickets for me and the hubby. who gonna be in concert? she mentions the name...what? They in town and I ein know... girl, wha tekkin yuh suh long tuh purchase dem tickets. Oh wait, how much de tickets cost? Bs 22,000... ¿en serio? yup was the reply. So wait we sittin in de nose bleed section ah de theatre? dem tickets very cheap. No, we are not.. she replies. We didn't get tickets in the center section, but we got good seats. I can't believe this. absolutely amazing.

So last night, hubby and I meet up with friend and her other half. went for some dinner and tell de people tuh hurry up cause we have no intentions of being late to see W.M. perform. Rush off to the theatre and branb..wha butt up pun we but a mob ah people. Lordee tell we dat we don't haffa wait in line tuh get in... alla deese people hey tuh see de show... I can't believe it. But we ein hear nuh advertisment fuh de show or nuttin so. We onlee get lucky cause we know sumbodie, dat know sumbodie that work at a certain sumplace that ghi we de inside scoop. Anyhow we feel lucky dat we get some tickets and we gone. The amount ah people outside din as bad as we thought as we moved quickly through the process and even had time to view a exhibition in the halls before going to our seats.

Settle in our seats. Show is to begin at 8:00PM, but you know how things is, dat not going tuh happen. At 8:10 de venezuleans gettin restless, so them start clappin tuh get de show started. Nuttin happen, five mins later dem start up again...still nuttin, by 8:25 lits dim and show start. Wow...I can't believe we actually getting to see W.M perform for onlee Bs 22,000. We reading the program and it say they gonna be two shows, one Friday and the other Saturday. Well de way the program write up, looks like we onlee gettin a small piece ah W.M on friday, but the read deal is on Sat night. Disappointment sets in, but nonetheless, we happy to see the performance.

The Venezulean youth orchestra starts off things. I must say, I've see the various parts of this orchestra perform before and they are absolutely amazing. Then a part of W.M group perform, but still we see no sight of W.M anyhow, his band is playing and we are enjoying it. this goes on for a bit, the youth orchestra will play the classical version of a song and the feature band will play the upbeat version. towards the end of the act... who should give us a solo performance but Wynton Marsials himself.... blew us off our feet. curtains close and we are like what? this is it?? can't be - we want more, we refuse to leave. Then the announcer said. we will now have a 20 min intermission. phweewww....

After intermission, then is when the show began, the youth orchestra is no longer playing. It's just Wynton Marsials and the Lincoln Center Jazz orchestra. All of 10 of them. They played for about an hour. They bought the Walls of the Terresa Carrina Theatre down. Talk about sweet jazz music. it was the sweetest music to your ears and all for @USD$10. Now there is no way in the world that I would have been able to pay $10 at the Lincoln Center in NYC to see them live. Parking alone in that area of NYC would be $20.00 the least. The tickets would be about $50 and above. It was amazing. one of the best Bs 22,000 I've spent since being here.

So I ein complaining for the weekend..that sweet jazz music still playing in my ears. I think I'll put in my John Coltrane CD and continue the vibes. Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, sun or rain.

So... 22,000 Bds is 10 $US..man, and I thought our rate of exchange was bad.

Good you enjoyed the concert...and yes, $10 sound like value for a ticket...

It raining and dark here as I type, but no complaints, beats the scorching summer heat.

Have a good weekend yourself. Dr. D.

MB, you've never heard of Wynton Marsalis???? Which rock you sleeping under.

One of the guys in his ensemble, I think it's a cello player, got his start through a Music Advancement Course at Julliard. They take ethnic minorities in and fast track them. Now he's playing with Wynton.

I met Brandon, the brother, at Boscobel where he stayed with his wife (before he separate or divorce she) and their son.

Wow, I'm surprised that you guys have never heard of Wynton Marsalis. He's a musical genius along with his father Brandford. They are jazz musicians, amongst the primers in the world. Wynton at 43, became the youngest and first black musical director of the Lincoln Center Jazz orchestra. He can blow the daylights out of a thrumpet. I did take a picture, but it was just to dark from where I was sitting.

Yamfoot, the whole assemble didn't come. Just about 10 of them. the bass player was a latin guy and he made the venezuleans quite proud. The pianist was jewish I assumed from the name. It was quite a mixed asemble.
