Noticias del mundo

It seems like the world is going to hell in a handbasket....or something so goes the saying. So much tragedy is gracing the headlines. These things makes you think and wonder what on earth is going on. The recent crisis in Niger, is most disturbing. When you have photos like these leading the news, it's disheartning Mothers waiting for food aide for themselves and mostly thier children. Can you imagine more than 800,000 children are suffering from malnutrition. 800,000??? Do you know that that's more than twice the population of my island of Barbados? Many people cannot phantom that image. I've seen stories over the past few weeks very well reported by the BBC & CNN news reporters. There are so many questions to be asked. Why didn't the international community respond to this crisis before. Why did they wait until the situation become a crisis of such propotion to decide to do something about it. It absolutely hurts the heart, emotions and soul when you see such young children stuggling for the basic sustanance of food or nutirents just to make it throuh the day or night. The thought of planning for next week, isn't even a factor. They are literally living from minute to minute day to day and many of them aren't making it. What is happening ot our future?

Next in the news is Sudan. Riots in Sudan breaks out after learning of the death of their vice president. Now why should they do this..why, why, why...Is such violence going to bring the VP back? Another of our African countries in dispair. Don't they have enough to worry about than to be fighting and looting. What would make them turn to such violent and destructive actions to destroy their own country. Bring their country two steps backwards in the process of peace than two steps forward. Are we as African people doomed to such destruction, famine, hungre, civil war, violence ect. When are we as a people in Africa going to make the step to move forward and help ourselves? These are things that make me really wonder about our future as a people. Is such actions a lack of education or a lack of faith? What is happening and what can we do to help solve the problem if indeed there is a solution.

Finally in local news, well locally to Bajans. All the other issuses happening in the world and in Barbados we have our own "crisis" Government and parliament included the Prime Minister himself have decided to give themselves pay raises. These are/were substantial pay rises. Lots of talk going on around Barbados about the raisies. But the most shocking in the news is this story. So now that the PM has decided to return his portion of the increase. people making all the comments and opinions necessary. Well, well, well...what can you say. All that is going on in the world and the Bajans complaing bout the PM salary. Should he give the money back or should he keep it.

not suprised about sudan. the peace was shaky at best and then one of the main proponents from one side dies and the people not sure about how he died so its sort of like the incidents that precipitated the rwanda genocide.

owen just giving back the money fa show. i dont see nun a de rest giving back anything though

The pictures of the famine in Niger are heartbreaking. It's a shame these things take so long to become public knowledge
