Felíz Navidad

Merry Christmas to all the bloggers out there.

I probably won't get to post again before Christmas. In true Caracas, Venezulea, Latin American style when one thing is fixed the other is broken. Our door bell which rings through the phone line wasn't working for quite sometime. it got fixed yesterday and now the internet connection which is also through the phone line isn't working, this is the same phone line that we have yet to get international calling service. We are so annoyed, we just can't be bothered. The sad thing is that with Christmas being the weekend, and Monday and Tuesday holidays and then the New Year, it will be sometime before we can p`robably speak to anyone about fixing the phone line or the internet. So here I am contented to sit in an internet café. Such is life.

Anyhow things can be worse, so I'm thankfull this season for all that I do have. Today, I went with some ladies from my church to a Leprosy hospital/home. When you see such things, it really makes you put life into perspective. We went and gave out toiletries and some small bagds of goodies. We sang some canciones de navidad and tried to lift the spirits of the people. Many of the men and women were in wheel chairs and this was their home. They had nothing else not even families. I did not take any photos because I didn't want to make the people feel uncomfortable. It wasn't so bad, but it also wasn't such a plesant sight seeing how the people looked. Really disheartening.

What amazed me was how needy people are. We took two large bags of bedroom slippers. They were from the Marriott hotel, the basic cheap cloth ones that Marriott gives to their guest. So the guest that left the used ones behind, the staff at Marriott gave us to carry to the prisions, hospitals, charities ect. We were amazed at how many pairs of slippers they were, but would you believe how the people grabbed at those slippers and I'm not talking about the sick people. I'm talking about the staff at the place. It was simply amazing at how such a simple thing and everyone was grabbing and searching through the bags to get two or three pairs of slippers.

All in all we did our good deed for the day and the season. Hopefully we'll get another chance to do some other good deed before the season ends. Our church usually makes these trips to the prisions, children's homes, ect. I heard to visit the women's prision is an experience, so I'll go on the next visit.

Well my café time is drawing to an end. Do have a very wonderful and blessed Christmas to one and all. Remember the reason for the season and share your blessings with those less fortunate.

Merry Christmas to you and family Camp. I failed Spanish miserably so I won't bother to try what Doc did :)
